Hawaiian Home School Days! 12.11.08

Wow, what a wild week last week was~!

Maui Sands Resort in Sandusky, Ohio turned out to be totally fantastic.  The classes they offered for our group of home schoolers was absolutely wonderful!  We met a terrific Hawaiian family who were willing to chit chat with us about their culture (during, after and in between their classes.)  Not to mention that everyone we spoke to was polite, kind, and so much fun!  The entire Maui Sands crew was exceptional.  Desk personelle, wait staff, management, and the Hawaiian “instructors” were all just fantastic.

My husband asked all kinds of questions, and talked to everyone he came in contact with - which is common for him! Ha!  I’m sure the boys are watching and learning how thier dad gets the info he needs, and I already know they watch mom. Dad gets info by asking questions of others, and mom tends to get info by looking it up.

Isn’t that what we really strive for as homeschooling parents?  To kind of set the best example we can for our kids to learn from?  Yep, we’re human, we make mistakes, we can even yell and get angry once in a while!  But we can also have fun, and enjoy learning from others about their history, culture and land - right in PERSON!  The FUN and education the boys got from this trip is what really counts. There is no better way to learn about Hawaii (other than actually FLYING there) - than to learn from it’s people.

Just to let you know a little about how our trip went, it was awesome.  Originally, we planned that the boys and I would head up for lunch and the classes, while Anth was at work.  He finally got a “wild hair” as we call it, and decided to take two days off instead of just one.

This was great for not only the kids, but for him too - as he totally enjoyed the day.  When we got there, we were not planning on getting into our rooms until about 4pm.  We were there right before lunch at noon, and were able to take our stuff to our room immediately.  That was a HUGE plus in our book!

We got our stuff packed in the room, and headed for lunch.  They had a wonderful spread of Hawaiian food (of which the kids didn’t eat much due to all the excitement) - complete with fruit, salad, rice, pork, very tasty chicken - and all paid for with our “homeschool package” from Maui Sands.

It was buffet style, and looked like this!

Ahhh, The Magic Of Halloween! 03.11.08

My boys have had a total bast for Halloween!

First they got to go trick-or-treating over at Grandma’s house (was that first? - hehehe been so busy I don’t recall) - not to mention our Halloween weekend over at my dad’s - ahh yep.  Grandma’s trick or treat was AFTER the clean up party on Sunday…

More Used Homeschool Books in Wonderful Condition! 27.10.08

We just found another way to gain wonderful used homeschool books! Yesterday, we went to the local library, because they had a book sale all weekend. We were quite busy (I’ll write another post here on our incredible weekend) - so we didn’t get a chance to go to the main book sale.

HOWEVER… On the last day, which was Sunday (yesterday) the remainder of the books from the library sale got sold at $2.00 per bag. My boys had a field day, and so did I. We filled up three huge brown grocery bags with books and kids videos. If you could fit it all in one bag - that entire bag was sold for just two bucks! We picked up some terrific used homeschool books - like my personal favorite:

Water Park Fun With Homeschooling Online! 16.10.08

Homeschooling Online gets to go to the water park!

Now, what is really cool about this is - for one, we’ve never been to the “Maui Sands” water park yet, we’ve only been to “Kalahari”. And let me tell you “Kalahari” was totally fantastic. Thanks to Gina Guadio Graves, we got to spend about 1-1/2 days (out of 3 that I wish we could have stayed) in Kalahari for an Internet Marketing seminar.

Sick Days At Homeschooling Online… 12.10.08

Do you really want to know what a sick day is like here at Homeschooling Online?

Hehehehe… Ok, so we STILL have a few “sick days” now and then. No, Homeschooling families are not IMMUNE to getting sick, they just don’t have it as BAD as the general public school system’s kiddos. My poor little brother has been sick a few times this year, he goes to public school currently. (My sneaking suspicion is that he’s more SICK OF SCHOOL than anything else!) :-)

Homeschooling Online Learns About Dysgraphia 05.10.08

Homeschooling Online recently learned about something we had never heard of before, called “Dysgraphia”. Since we’re members of HSLDA we receive email updates from them. Surprisingly, the same day that it took Branden over an hour to write ONE sentence… we got an email from HSLDA explaining Dysgraphia.

Homeschooling Online Goes To The ZOO! 29.09.08

All right, so it’s a zoo every day around our house… but homeschooling online actually went to the REAL Zoo for Home Educators day this past weekend!

It was really nice. If you live in the Akron, Ohio area - I really suggest checking out the Akron Zoo if you haven’t already. If you didn’t realize that they do a lot of fun things there for homeschool groups in class type settings, you will be pleasantly surprised.
