Hawaiian Home School Days! 12.11.08
Wow, what a wild week last week was~!
Maui Sands Resort in Sandusky, Ohio turned out to be totally fantastic. The classes they offered for our group of home schoolers was absolutely wonderful! We met a terrific Hawaiian family who were willing to chit chat with us about their culture (during, after and in between their classes.) Not to mention that everyone we spoke to was polite, kind, and so much fun! The entire Maui Sands crew was exceptional. Desk personelle, wait staff, management, and the Hawaiian “instructors” were all just fantastic.
My husband asked all kinds of questions, and talked to everyone he came in contact with - which is common for him! Ha! I’m sure the boys are watching and learning how thier dad gets the info he needs, and I already know they watch mom. Dad gets info by asking questions of others, and mom tends to get info by looking it up.
Isn’t that what we really strive for as homeschooling parents? To kind of set the best example we can for our kids to learn from? Yep, we’re human, we make mistakes, we can even yell and get angry once in a while! But we can also have fun, and enjoy learning from others about their history, culture and land - right in PERSON! The FUN and education the boys got from this trip is what really counts. There is no better way to learn about Hawaii (other than actually FLYING there) - than to learn from it’s people.
Just to let you know a little about how our trip went, it was awesome. Originally, we planned that the boys and I would head up for lunch and the classes, while Anth was at work. He finally got a “wild hair” as we call it, and decided to take two days off instead of just one.
This was great for not only the kids, but for him too - as he totally enjoyed the day. When we got there, we were not planning on getting into our rooms until about 4pm. We were there right before lunch at noon, and were able to take our stuff to our room immediately. That was a HUGE plus in our book!
We got our stuff packed in the room, and headed for lunch. They had a wonderful spread of Hawaiian food (of which the kids didn’t eat much due to all the excitement) - complete with fruit, salad, rice, pork, very tasty chicken - and all paid for with our “homeschool package” from Maui Sands.
It was buffet style, and looked like this!
