Finding Used Homeschool Books in Nice Shape…
Of course when you’re homeschooling, you’re always on the lookout for some used homeschool books in good condition, right? Well I’ll give you a little tip on where you can find great used homeschool curriculum and books. I’m not sure if you’ve ever used Amazon.com before, but we’ve used Amazon a few times now. I really enjoy their service, they ship very quickly, are reliable, and you can find used homeschool books in nice shape right there without even leaving your home!
It used to really bother me to shop online, with the “information flow” of my personal information online - but in the past 7 years or so… “I’ve got over it” a long time ago. I think my Paypal account dates back to 2001, when I first dabbled in some Ebay buying and selling. If you’ve never bought anything on the internet before, I give it the big thumbs up. And here’s why.
I’ll never forget being “big fat pregnant” with my second son Michael in the middle of December 2004. He was due in January of course, so I was about MISERABLE. He kept bumping into my sciatic nerve periodically, and I would have to hit the couch for a day at a time unable to move in certain ways. Even laying down was VERY uncomfortable. I’m sure you can imagine where that left me with “Christmas shopping” that year. Heh. And to think about hauling my “just turned” 4 year old shopping with me? NOT!!!
I did almost ALL of my Christmas shopping online that year, and you know what? I think I only had one thing that didn’t show up (from Ebay) - and so far… knock on wood… I’ve never had any problems with Paypal, Credit cards, etc. No identity theft, no “lost payments”, no “scams. Needless to say, I truly enjoyed shopping that year, because I didn’t have to fight the crowds, I didn’t have to tell Branden “wait for Christmas for that” when he wanted to buy every single thing in the store - and I could wrap things as they came in.
Shopping online is awesome, and that year I got completely hooked. Still worried about shopping online this year? Think of it this way - every time you hand a credit card to another person in the offline world, you have just as much chance of them copying down your info (including your actual signature) so what the heck? I prefer Paypal to credit cards, because I generally have some kind of balance to use in there from my online biz, and it has so far been secure for me. I’d say that no trouble in the last 7 years is pretty good!
Anyhow, back to those used homeschool books. Amazon.com has a wonderful selection, both new and used. You’ll find mostly used homeschool books instead of used homeschool curriculum. Some books I would suggest - especially if you are newer to homeschooling include:
Home Learning Year by Year: How to Design a Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School
- a really handy reference guide by Rebecca Rupp which gives you information on what your homeschoolers should be learning at each grade. You can rest a bit easier with that knowledge, because I will periodically think that I might not be teaching my children well enough. If I back up and consider just HOW MUCH my 3 year old, and my 7 year old know - it’s truly amazing. This book “Home Learning Year by Year” is very helpful since it gives you information on what your children should know grade by grade. Also has handy resources for each grade.
Another one would be:
Every child is unique as fingerprints, and boy have I found out how DIFFERENT they are - even in the same family! Yes, they have their OWN ways of learning… which is why Public School doesn’t agree with us quite as well as homeschooling. You can’t just “pigeon hole” every child at a certain age into a “set scheme” of learning, although you can have an idea of what most are capable of by that age.
Some kiddos need to get up and move, have “hands on” education, while others are happy to sit and watch, take it all in, and don’t even need to do homework. (I was one of those!) My boys, however, are extremely active, “hands on” and would NOT do well at a desk for the most part of the day.
“100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum” helps you figure out which learning style best fits each of your children so you can build your OWN curriculum. Wonderful information and a superb chart that will help you dial in your children’s learning styles at a glance, and give you plenty of curriculum options.
All you need to do is search Amazon.com for these used homeschool books, and you’ll get them at a super price, in great time, and you can go buy them right now. Sometimes we’re so busy, that we get to go to the book stores for a “field trip” and it has to be “scheduled in!” Not so with Amazon. You can purchase whichever used homeschool books you like, go on about your business, and in a couple days - you’ll go “yay! My books are in!”
My suggestion would be to search on both Amazon.com and Ebay.com for “used homeschool curriculum”, “used homeschool books” - or just “homeschool books” or “homeschool curriculum” because both new and used should show up on both sites. I usually do a search on both sites, match the prices, and see where I can get the best deal!
Until next time…
Peace!
